Norway held a state funeral for King Harald V on Wednesday in Oslo, marking the end of 13 days of national mourning. The late monarch, who died on August 28 at the age of 89, had reigned for 35 years and was the oldest monarch in Europe. The ceremonies began with a 21 gun salute and a procession from the Royal Palace to the Oslo Cathedral, where the coffin was draped in the red royal standard. A nationwide minute of silence was observed at 1:00 p.m. local time to begin the religious service. Following the cathedral service, the coffin was moved to the royal crypt at Akershus Fortress for burial alongside the king's parents.

Other notable guests included Prince William and Princess Anne of the United Kingdom, Crown Prince Akishino of Japan, and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also attended, having met with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store to discuss the war with Russia. The United States was represented by Under Secretary of State Allison Hooker.
New King Haakon VIII led the procession on foot, accompanied by Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra and other family members. Queen Sonja and Queen Mette Marit followed in a car. Mette Marit is currently recovering from a lung transplant performed in June. The presence of Marius Borg Hoiby, the son of Queen Mette Marit, was noted by several reports. Hoiby, who is under house arrest following convictions for rape and domestic violence, attended the funeral and had previously served as a pallbearer, which drew criticism in some sectors.
Thousands of citizens lined the streets of Oslo to pay their respects to the king, who was frequently described as a unifying and down to earth figure. Prime Minister Store praised the monarch for his ability to balance being stately with being accessible. The funeral concluded with the royal family appearing on the palace balcony to greet the public and the raising of national flags to full mast.
