Prashant Kishor of the Jan Suraaj Party won the Bankipur Assembly byelection, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha by 19,324 votes. Kishor received 64,151 votes, while Sinha received 44,827 votes. The Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate, Rekha Kumari, finished third with 14,273 votes. Another JD(U) MLA, Anant Singh, suggested voters reacted to a perception that Nitish Kumar had been sidelined by the BJP. Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD attributed the BJP's defeat to the negative politics of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
