Iran is expected to receive a shipment of between 300 and 400 Chinese-made shoulder-fired air-defence missile launchers, according to reports. The deal, valued at $60–70 million, involves man-portable air defence systems (MANPADS), including FN-16 and QW-12 missiles, facilitated by a Hong Kong-based intermediary called Zhongqing Baoshang International Investment. Deliveries are reportedly planned to fly from Urumqi in western China through Pakistan.
Both the Chinese and Pakistani governments have denied these reports. China's Foreign Ministry dismissed the claims as "completely groundless," while Pakistan's military described them as "absolutely concocted and false."
In response to the reports, President Donald Trump stated he would be "disappointed" or "quite disappointed" if China provided weapons to Iran. Trump noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping had told him strongly that he would not partake in such an arrangement.
