Rescue efforts will continue overnight for a vessel reported to be in distress in the English Channel with five people on board. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency launched a helicopter, a plane, and lifeboats on Saturday evening south west of Eddystone Lighthouse off Plymouth. RNLI lifeboats from Falmouth and Plymouth are conducting the operation, joined by several civilian vessels, including French fishing boats.
Officials have not confirmed the type of boat involved or the specific nature of the emergency. Maritime monitoring data indicated that around a dozen boats clustered off the coast of Plymouth in the early hours of Sunday, while a HM Coastguard aircraft remained in the area. The Met Office forecast moderate to rough conditions, thundery showers, and periods of deteriorating visibility for the region overnight.
