Rise Against Performs at Rock in Rio Without Own Instruments

The American punk hardcore band Rise Against performed on the Palco Mundo at Rock in Rio on Friday, October 4. During the set, vocalist Tim McIlrath revealed that the band did not have their own equipment. He stated that their instruments had been left somewhere, meaning the group had to use guitars, basses, and drums provided by the festival. McIlrath noted that playing the megafestival was a dream for the band, recalling how they listened to Iron Maiden's live Rock in Rio album while touring in vans 25 years ago.

The Chicago based group played a high energy set featuring hits such as Ready to Fall, Satellite, Prayer of the Refugee, and Savior. While some of the audience appeared to be waiting for the headliner, Foo Fighters, the crowd eventually engaged with the performance through singing and mosh pits. The band is known for its political activism and straight edge philosophy, with three of the four members abstaining from alcohol and drugs.
