Russian Drone Strikes Hit Kyiv Gas Stations as Ukraine Targets Russian Industrial Sites

Russian drone strikes on gas stations in Kyiv on September 11 killed two people and injured 12 others, including a 12 year old boy. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the attacks targeted civilian infrastructure, with one of the injured being a first responder wounded in a double tap strike. The strikes occurred as Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski arrived in the capital. In response to the attacks, center left framing describes the strikes as terrorist in nature and part of a broader Russian effort to target civilian energy and logistics chains using new, faster jet powered drones.

Simultaneously, Ukraine has intensified its long range drone campaign against Russian territory. Reports indicate that Ukrainian drones struck industrial sites in Tolyatti and Taganrog on September 12. In Tolyatti, a rubber manufacturing plant was reportedly hit, while in Taganrog, fires were reported at an airfield and a car manufacturing plant. Other Ukrainian strikes targeted an oil refinery and an Ozon logistics hub in Saratov, as well as a chemical plant in Volgograd. Russian officials reported casualties in the Tula and Kursk regions following these raids.

On the diplomatic and humanitarian front, Canada announced sanctions against eight individuals involved in the deportation and militarization of Ukrainian children. These sanctions target Russian officials and youth movement leaders accused of facilitating the abduction and re education of children in occupied territories. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Russian naval convoys are currently traversing the Mediterranean Sea toward Tartus, Syria.
