A significant number of sellers using the Russian marketplaces Wildberries and Ozon have moved their goods to their own warehouses following Ukrainian drone strikes on logistics facilities. According to data from Tochka bank reported by Kommersant, the share of Wildberries sellers using the Fulfillment by Seller (FBS) model, where goods are stored and shipped from the seller's own warehouse, nearly doubled to 97.4 percent by the end of August. Ozon saw a similar trend, with the share of sellers using their own warehouses rising to 73.1 percent.
Ukrainian troops have targeted major warehouses for both companies since mid July. The estimated damage to Wildberries and its sellers as of early August reached hundreds of billions of rubles, with one report specifying the figure at 878 billion rubles. Ozon and its sellers may have lost between 118.5 and 169.5 billion rubles.
Wildberries acknowledged the growing interest in the FBS model but stated it was not necessarily a mass shift, suggesting that sellers are combining different models. Ozon did not respond to requests for comment. Experts noted that while marketplaces charge higher commissions for sellers using their own warehouses, the marketplace model still offers advantages like faster delivery for high demand goods.
On September 9, Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Roman Chekushov stated that not all damaged facilities should be rebuilt and that it is necessary to understand how logistics will be restructured.
