Ukraine Launches Deepest Strike into Russia Targeting Arctic Gas Infrastructure

Ukraine has carried out its deepest attack into Russian territory to date, targeting two gas condensate facilities in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine hit eight infrastructure objects used for the war, including an oil refinery in the Yamalo-Nenets region and a commercial port in Dagestan. Other targets were located in the regions of Moscow, Voronezh, Astrakhan, and Bryansk. The Ukrainian Armed Forces identified the aircraft used as FP-1 drones produced by Fire Point, which are capable of traveling over 3,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The Yamalo-Nenets region is critical to the Russian economy, as it hosts approximately 80 percent of the country's natural gas production.

Russian officials reported varying results from the attacks. Governor Dmitry Artyukhov of the Yamalo-Nenets region stated that drones were intercepted and that debris caused a fire. In the Voronezh region, Governor Alexander Gussev reported that one woman was killed and two others were injured in the city of Borissoglebsk. In Dagestan, acting head Fyodor Shchukin said drone debris caused fires at a theater and port infrastructure in Makhachkala, but no injuries occurred.

Simultaneously, other casualties were reported in the region. Two Azerbaijani sailors were killed and two others injured when a drone struck a foreign cargo ship named Tedy in the Black Sea. In eastern Ukraine, Russian shelling of Kramatorsk injured at least 16 people, with strikes hitting a residential area and the vicinity of schools.

Additionally, Amnesty International released a report accusing Russia of human trafficking. The organization alleges that Russia lured foreign recruits with false promises of high salaries and residency permits, only to deploy them to the front lines in Ukraine.
