São Paulo International Book Biennial Opens with High Attendance and Star Power

The São Paulo International Book Biennial began on Friday, August 4, at the Distrito Anhembi. The event saw large crowds and high energy, particularly during appearances by prominent authors at the Arena Cultural. Writer Conceição Evaristo opened the programming at the main stage, where she discussed the importance of the new generation of authors valuing the traditions and roots of previous generations. Evaristo, who was elected to the Academia Mineira de Letras in 2024, emphasized that her writing should be valued over her personal biography. Another major draw was author Raphael Montes, whose appearance caused a commotion among young fans. Montes discussed the Netflix film adaptation of his new book, "A Estranha na Cama," alongside actress Paolla Oliveira. Other notable authors mentioned as part of the event include Lynn Painter, Paula Pimenta, Carina Rissi, Thalita Rebouças, and Alice Oseman. The Bienal continues until September 13.
