Measles vaccination for individuals aged 6 months to 59 years has resumed in the Vila Maria, Vila Medeiros, and Vila Guilherme districts of São Paulo. The decision follows the confirmation of two new measles cases in children under 2 years old in the capital on Wednesday, October 9. These new cases bring the state total to 30 cases in 2026, a significant increase from the 2 cases recorded throughout 2025. Of these cases, 27 are concentrated in the city of São Paulo, with two in São Bernardo do Campo and one in Guarulhos.
The vaccine being administered is the triple viral vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps, and rubella. Proof of previous vaccination history is not required. Additionally, a zero dose remains recommended for children aged 6 months to 11 months and 29 days residing in São Paulo, Guarulhos, and São Bernardo do Campo.
According to the Ministry of Health, the standard vaccination schedule involves a triple viral dose at 12 months and a tetraviral dose at 15 months. Adults aged 1 to 29 should have two doses of the triple viral vaccine, while those aged 30 to 59 require at least one. Health professionals must prove they have received two doses regardless of age.
Vaccines are available at all Basic Health Units (UBS) and Integrated AMAs/UBSs in the capital. These facilities operate Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Integrated AMAs/UBSs also operate on Saturdays during the same hours. Residents can find the nearest unit using the Busca Saúde platform.
