Ukrainian Sea Drones Strike Sochi Waterfront

Ukrainian sea drones attacked the waterfront of the Russian resort city of Sochi on the evening of September 9. According to reports from the Krasnodar Krai operational headquarters, 28 people were injured in the attack, including two children. All injured persons received medical treatment, though three adults and one child remained hospitalized. The attack caused partial damage to beach infrastructure and the Primorskaya embankment. The blast occurred near the Festivalny House of Culture, where a concert by singer Tatiana Bulanova was interrupted and the audience was evacuated.

Russian authorities, including Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin, described the damage as minor and stated that the beaches would remain closed until the area was cleared. However, Russia's Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on terrorism charges, claiming Ukraine deliberately targeted the resort area. Center-left sources noted that the attack occurred in an area frequented by the Russian elite and is located relatively close to President Putin's residence in Gelendzhik.

Military experts cited by center-left reports suggest the attack likely utilized MAGURA V5 or Sea Baby drones, which have operational ranges of 800 to 1,000 kilometers. This distance allows them to reach Sochi from Ukrainian ports such as Odesa or Mykolaiv. The attack on Sochi was part of a broader wave of strikes, which included targets in the ports of Novorossiysk and Makhachkala, as well as other regions in Russia.
