U.S. officials describe the bank as a critical financial lifeline for Iran. The Treasury accuses the institution of enabling Iran to move oil revenues from China to Turkey and providing services to Iranian finance entities. According to U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack, the institutions moved funds on behalf of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and served as channels through which Tehran launders the proceeds of its activities.
