- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
United States Under Secretary of State Christopher Landau announced the revocation of the visa of Viviana Marín, the political secretary of the Colombian Communist Youth (Juco). The decision follows a viral video from late June in which Marín stated that the goal was to make the country unlivable for Abelardo de la Espriella, the newly elected president. Landau stated on X that the United States does not welcome those who practice political opposition through violence or intimidation.
Following the video, right wing figures including former senator María Fernanda Cabal and representative David Toledo shared the footage. A legal group, the Corporación Colectivo de Abogados Francisco de Paula Santander, filed a criminal complaint with the Attorney General's Office accusing Marín of terrorism and instigation to commit crimes. In response, Juco issued a statement denouncing a wave of harassment and threats against its members, while Marín herself claimed in an Instagram video that the political transition had ushered in a period of political persecution.
Reports from a center right perspective highlighted perceived ideological contradictions, noting that Marín had previously traveled to US cities such as Chicago and Tampa despite her anti imperialist rhetoric. A center perspective framed the event within a broader pattern of US government actions, noting that Landau had recently criticized other left wing figures, such as influencer Beto Coral, and mentioning a broader Trump administration plan to revoke up to 200,000 visas for those who entered on tourist or business visas and later sought asylum.
How each side framed it
- Centre
- Framed the event as part of a wider US government trend of targeting left wing opposition and asylum seekers.
- Centre-right
- Focused on the legal accusations of terrorism and the ideological hypocrisy of the militant traveling to the US.
