Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.

Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.

Every outlet covering this story shares the same political lean; read with that in mind.

Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, is facing multiple legal challenges regarding the creation and use of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) via its chatbot, Grok. In a rare legal strategy, xAI has filed lawsuits against two of its users, Russell Bloodworth and Terry Wayne Harwood, who both face criminal charges for allegedly using Grok to create explicit images of children. xAI is seeking to hold these individuals responsible for the company's legal expenses and reputational harm, arguing that the users violated the terms of service. The company states it has implemented technological safeguards and has made nearly 74,000 reports of suspected CSAM to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2026 alone.

Simultaneously, xAI is defending itself against several class action lawsuits from victims. One lawsuit alleges that xAI used known CSAM, including images of the plaintiff taken when she was a child, within the datasets used to train Grok. The complaint argues that because Grok uses public posts on X and its own outputs as training data, the AI directly feeds into a pipeline that generates and improves the creation of such material. Attorneys for the victims argue that the company's lawsuits against individual users are insufficient and that the fundamental problem lies with the product itself.

How each side framed it

Centre
Center leaning outlets focused on the legal conflict, contrasting xAI's aggressive litigation against its users with the allegations that the company's own training data and product design enable the creation of child abuse material.
