Former Danish Queen Margrethe II, 86, has been admitted to the hospital for treatment and observation. According to the palace in Copenhagen, the former monarch is being treated for a blood clot in the hip region and mild dehydration. She is expected to remain in the hospital for one week. As a result, she will be unable to attend the funeral of King Harald V of Norway, who died nine days ago. King Frederik X, Queen Mary, Crown Prince Christian, and Princess Benedikte will attend the service in Oslo in her place.
This hospitalization follows a previous stay in May at the Rigshospitalet for heart problems and a separate incident involving a large blood clot in the hip following a fall. The palace has not specified if there is a connection between the two blood clots. Margrethe and the late King Harald V were second cousins and shared a close relationship.
