Four people charged with murder after newborn baby girl found stabbed to death in Sheffield

Four people have appeared in court charged with the murder of a newborn baby girl who was found stabbed to death in Sheffield. The infant, referred to in court as Baby S, was discovered on Sunday morning at a property on Holywell Heights in the Wincobank area after police received reports of concern for the safety of an infant. A forensic post mortem examination identified the cause of death as stab wounds; one report specified the baby had suffered 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings.

The defendants are Andrea Skopova, 20, Peter Horvath, 19, Peter Horvath, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37. They have been charged with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice by taking steps to conceal the killing of an infant. All four were remanded into custody to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday. A fifth person, a 15 year old girl who cannot be named for legal reasons, also appeared in court charged with perverting the course of justice. Additionally, police stated that two women aged 26 and 37 remain on bail after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward of South Yorkshire Police described the charges as a significant step in the investigation into the tragic circumstances. He thanked the community for its support and urged the public to avoid speculating online to protect the integrity of the criminal justice process. Lauren Costello, deputy chief Crown prosecutor at CPS Yorkshire and Humberside, also reminded the public that the defendants have the right to a fair trial.
