FSSAI Issues Notices to JW Marriott and Andaz Delhi Over Food Safety Violations

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to two luxury hotels in Delhi's Aerocity, JW Marriott and Andaz Delhi, following inspections that uncovered significant hygiene and food safety lapses. The inspections took place on Wednesday and revealed multiple violations across both establishments.

At JW Marriott, inspectors reported finding cockroaches, fruit flies, and fungal growth on apples. Other issues included rotten tomatoes, unclean utensils, and improper storage of cut vegetables. The regulator also noted a lack of proper licensing for certain products such as paneer and khoya, as well as poor allergen management and non operational exhaust systems. JW Marriott stated in a response to Bloomberg that the hotel is cooperating with local authorities and will take necessary action based on the findings.

Andaz Delhi faced similar scrutiny, with inspectors finding active cockroaches near freezers, houseflies, mosquitoes, and spider webs. The FSSAI reported finding approximately 87 kilograms of expired sweets, along with expired bread packets and cake base. Additionally, a packet of gutka was discovered inside the bottling plant area, and chillers were reportedly located between two bathrooms with exhaust venting into the chiller section.

The FSSAI has collected surveillance samples of items including ghee, honey, and mayonnaise for laboratory testing. Both hotels have been directed to implement immediate corrective measures and submit compliance reports with supporting evidence.
