Lavitola Claims Sole Responsibility for Attack on Journalist Sigfrido Ranucci

Valter Lavitola has claimed that the decision to carry out the attack on Report presenter Sigfrido Ranucci was his autonomous choice. According to his lawyer, Arturo Cola, Lavitola is repentant for causing trouble for Ranucci, whom he considers a brother, and Clesio Gomes Tavares, whom he views as a son. These statements followed a three hour meeting at Rebibbia prison as Lavitola prepares for a hearing at the Tribunal of the Review next week, where he intends to make spontaneous declarations to clarify his previous confession from August 12.

Investigators are examining the relationship between the journalist and the accused. Reports indicate that Lavitola had warned Ranucci about potential risks and the need for physical security due to social media haters as early as September 7, more than a month before the October 16 bombing in Pomezia. Lavitola's lawyer suggests that Ranucci may not have reported these warnings to investigators because he viewed the matter as unimportant or handled it superficially.

Prosecutors are now questioning why Ranucci remained silent about certain circumstances and his relationship with Lavitola during previous hearings. This includes his interactions with Clesio Gomes Tavares, who is alleged to be the intermediary between Lavitola and the material executors of the attack. A new hearing for Ranucci is expected in September to address these omissions.
