MP Fadiel Adams admits to misleading Madlanga Commission over correspondence

National Coloured Congress MP Fadiel Adams admitted he provided wrong information to the Madlanga Commission of inquiry regarding when he first saw a request to submit a statement. During testimony, Commission Chairperson Judge Mbuyiseli Madlanga presented evidence showing that Adams had responded to a Rule 3 notice on October 14, 2025, only 11 days after it was sent. This contradicted Adams' previous claim that he had only seen the communication three to four months prior. Adams apologized profusely, attributing the discrepancy to a mix up of dates and technical issues with his state issued laptop, which he claims freezes frequently. Parliament has disputed these claims of laptop failure, noting that members are provided with three different devices. Adams stated he did not use the provided phone or tablet due to hacking concerns.

Beyond the dispute over timelines, Adams used his testimony to accuse KwaZulu Natal police commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo of abusing their power. Adams alleged that the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), led by Khumalo, received an excessive budget of R100 million per year to investigate approximately 130 murder dockets, which he calculated as R2.3 million per docket. He contrasted this with the smaller budget of the Anti Gang Unit, which faced up to 800 murders. Adams further alleged that he was arrested on May 5 and transported to KwaZulu Natal for 30 hours in a police van without protective covering. He argued that the duality of Khumalo and Mkhwanazi holding multiple high ranking roles compromises investigative independence. Mkhwanazi has previously alleged that Adams had unauthorized access to crime intelligence information and was involved in state capture 2.0, claims which Adams denied.
