- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.

Supreme Court Justice Flávio Dino has lifted the secrecy of decisions in an inquiry investigating a suspected criminal organization within public bodies in Maranhão. The investigation, which also examines allegations of obstruction of justice involving Senator Weverton Rocha, stems from a broader case involving journalist Luís Pablo and his source, former police officer Raimundo Cutrim. The conflict began after Pablo published reports regarding the alleged irregular use of official vehicles from the Maranhão Court of Justice by Justice Dino and his family, which Dino has denied, stating the vehicles were private.
Justice Alexandre de Moraes, the rapporteur of the case, authorized search and seizure operations against Pablo and Cutrim. Moraes argued that the constitutional guarantee of source confidentiality cannot serve as a shield for criminal activities, asserting that the security of Justice Dino and his family was placed at real risk by a criminal organization. Justice Gilmar Mendes supported this view, stating that constitutional protections are subject to use and abuse and that the case involves complexities such as blackmail and illegal coercion.
Conversely, legal experts and press freedom advocates argue that the investigation constitutes a violation of the constitutional right to source confidentiality. Critics point to five potential irregularities: the breach of source secrecy, the practice of fishing expeditions through indiscriminate seizure of electronic devices, the questionable jurisdiction of the Supreme Court to handle the case, and potential conflicts of interest since Justice Dino is both a victim and a judge in related proceedings. Justice Edson Fachin expressed solidarity with Dino but publicly defended the constitutional secrecy of sources, suggesting the matter be handled by the full plenary of the court to ensure collegiality.
According to Federal Police reports now made public, the wider investigation involves a 2022 murder of a businessman in São Luís, which is allegedly linked to disputes over bribes in public contracts involving the political group of Governor Carlos Brandão. The police claim that Raimundo Cutrim acted as an intermediary to influence witness testimony. Justice Dino maintained the Supreme Court's competence to judge the case due to the involvement of authorities with privileged forum.
